THE SIXTY BILLION NAMES OF GOD
PRESS RELEASE
The Sixty Billion Names Of God is an ongoing project wherein the
collective of artists known by that name will, beginning on the 16th
of August 2007, the 30th anniversary of Elvis Presley's death,
commence a programme of re-creating, non-chronologically, but in
absolute totality, all the recorded works of the artist known as
Elvis Aaron Presley.
In a series of live performance arts events and multi-media
presentations they will methodically work through the entire back
catalogue of all his various recordings, including duplicated
performances, film sound-tracks and live recordings.
When completed, and comprehensively documented, this body of work
will stand as a unique and grandiose monument to Ellvis Presley's
totemic achievements on earth.
The umbrella collective of SBNOG will include contribtors from all of
the arts including visual, conceptual, filmic and theatre, as well as
musicians and performers from a very broad range of disciplines.
Within the remit of the project the artists will be granted carte
blanche in terms of interpretation and performance so long as they
are judged to have fulfilled the criteria of the programme.
As well as the core group of SBNOG there will be a succession of
guest performers and artists free to move around and comment on the
mission statement.
The Sixty Billion Names Of God will be an ever-evolving and growing
organic project.
Artists still to be confirmed include...
[ Turner-Prize winner Martin Creed, Keiko Owada ( OWADA ), Patrick
Brill ( Bob and Roberta Smith, Ken Ardley Playboys ), James and
Geraldine Johnstone ( Gallon Drunk ), Terry Edwards (Scapegoats,
Lydia Lunch ), London Electric Guitar Orchestra, Nigel Teers, Richard
Wilson ( Bow Gamelan Ensemble ), David Cunningham ( Flying Lizards ),
Damien Grist ( Garyoke ), Noriko Uno, Karen Gunnersson ) *

MARK WYDLER (until Sunday 9 December)
My paintings ask questions about the nature of
consciousness. They look at how concepts of
consciousness can be represented, the ways different
cultures have found to understand and show it, and
their and our attitudes towards the consciousness of
other living things.
